This post assumes that you have a degree in a subject and now are looking for a job. In India, with more than 1 billion people, job market is very competitive. Here are some helpful advice on how to get a job, especially first job since freshers face the hardest time to get a job.

> You cannot find any jobs :

If you cannot find any job, then you should start searching on the internet for good quality job sites where you can find job ads. I have made a list of some of the best job sites in India for various type of jobs:

http://recoct.blogspot.in/2013/08/list-of-best-job-sites-in-india.html

> You apply for jobs but do not get any calls for interview :

If you are applying for jobs but not getting any interview calls, the problem is most likely your resume. Your resume should always be short, to the point and relevant for the job. When you email your resume to someone, you should write a good email subject like "job application for xyz position". You should also write a cover letter in the email body. A cover letter is like a summary of your resume. So it should be only 2 to 3 paragraphs with main highlight on RELEVANT experience and skills you have. Soon I will be posting sample resumes and cover letters so you guys can have an idea on how to prepare your job application.

> You get interview calls but not getting selected for any job :

In this case, most likely either your communication skills are bad, which is especially important for customer facing jobs like sales, marketing, advertising, etc. If your job is more technical, then you lack the skills to get a job. So start learning right now and improve your knowledge. See if you can do any training that will be useful in getting a job. Make sure to not just read, but also practice what you are reading which will help you in learning it fast.

I hope these tips were useful :)

Business Development Executives

Business Development is the process of acquiring new clients for your company or building relationships with the current clients of the company. Business development executives make presentations to the prospective clients, keep in contact with them, network with the top professionals of a company and make business deals with clients. This is usually a commission based job with a base salary, and the best part of this job is that you can get a huge amount of commission depending on the project.

Qualifications Needed- A degree in business management (BBM) is usually preferred by the employers, but any degree from B.Com, B.A, B.Sc and even B.Tech (especially for IT companies) is accepted by most of the companies.

Skills Needed- To succeed in business development, you would need to be fluent in English. If you are the kind of person who likes to talk a lot, good at convincing people, good at debates and making your point, then this is just the career for you. You should be an extrovert who can take initiatives and also have creativity to attract clients.

Job Opportunities- Since every company needs business development executives, there are a lot of business development jobs available in India.

Future Scope- Business development executives get promoted as business development managers, and later business manager or Business Development head or Business Partner of a company. With more experience, they are likely to earn very well as they can grab big projects for the company.

Copywriter

Copywriting is the art of writing articles which will be used for advertising purposes. It could be a catchy tagline of a product, for example Bingo chips has the tagline- "no confusion, great combination". You all would have heard of it. It could be the concept of a Television ad, the main description of a company's website- It would be the copywriter's job to do it.

Qualifications needed- A degree in English literature or journalism or business management (BBM) will be sufficient. Even graduates who do not have an arts degree can apply for this job if they are really good at it.

Skills Needed-  Much more important than qualifications, skills matter. You need to be good at creative writing. You should have a way with words, ability to sell a product through words. And of course, impeccable grammar and writing skills. If you are really interested in this career, make sure you spend a lot of your time writing stories, reading books and writing poems too. Exercise your imagination :-)

There are also a lot of internships available for copywriters which can give you an edge over all the other people applying for the same job as you.

Job opportunities- There are many advertising companies in all the major cities of India, so there are a lot of job opportunities in this field. Also, given that the standard of English is really low among Indians, the talented ones will have a good chance of succeeding in this career.

Future Scope- Once you graduate, you can join at entry level at an advertising agency. With experience, you will earn more, and eventually can become senior copywriter, and after that the copy head of an ad agency or you can even turn to marketing jobs and become a marketing manager or marketing director at any prestigious company.

A brief intro about Advertising and Marketing

Since advertising is a form of marketing, I have clubbed these two under one category. Usually though, there are advertising agencies that only deal with advertising whereas marketing is usually a part of any decent sized company.

So marketing and advertising field concerns with promoting a product or person through word of mouth, through sales and marketing campaigns, through TV channels, or newspapers or internet or SMS.

And so, there are a lot of career opportunities within this field like Account executives, copywriters, graphic designers/artists, marketing executives, business development, event management, public relations, corporate communication, online marketing, etc. I am going to explain these in detail in my next posts under this category.
